Production Scheduling or Discrete Event Simulation

I would like to know what is the demarkation line between simulation and scheduling. When do you use Production Scheduling Software and when do you use Discrete Event Simulation Software?

I'd like to put in simple way to answer.

Discrete event simulation provides a dynamic view of the "overall" value stream and prediction of system performance metrics.

Production scheduling simulation, on the other hand, deals with detailed operations on “individual” production machines, work stations, and other manufacturing resources given that certain constraints of the resources are in place.

Production scheduling software typically recommends resource allocations and task sequencing in order to optimize a system performance metric, usually delivery date.
