Question Workforce Labor Scheduling for optimal customer service based on demand

I was reading that Walmart is implementing a scheduler that automatically creates schedules based on forecasted sales and demand. Are there any case studies or white papers about workforce schedulers and their impact. How do they work and what industries are using them?

You might try searching with keyword "Staffing scheduling" or something like this. The journal library should have a lot of this article. Most of them is staff scheduling based on a variety of simulation scenarios. For example, nurse/doctor in healthcare, staffs in supermarket store, workers in production line, tellers at bank counter, RSAs in rental car facility, etc.
