Default Production scheduling definition

I am new to scheduling. Could someone please define the term “production scheduling” for me?

Production scheduling is the allocation of resources and the sequencing of tasks to produce goods and services. Production scheduling specifies the time each job starts and completes on each machine, as well as any additional resources needed.

The goal is to answer the following example questions:
o Which machine should be used to run the production batch?
o What job should be run next?
o Which order will be delivered late?
