Several come to mind such as: Standardized Work, Workload Leveling, Error Proofing, Value Stream Mapping, Reduction of Variation (Six Sigma), Kaizen Events, Pull Systems (Kanban), Total Preventive Maintenance, Quick Set-up, and Workplace Organization (5S) & Visual Workplace to name a few. Each of these are strategies/tools deployed by Lean organizations.

I agree with the last post. The key is make the Lean Manufacturing tools simple and visible. The tools should be self explanatory. We are using Standardized Work and Visual Tools in our current project and they are delivering the results.

This is how i work on
The lean manufacturing system can be splitted into three major areas a) If it is related to material handling then the tools are 1) Kanban 2) 2 bin system b) If it is realted to Visual management then the tools are 1) 5S 2) Heijunka 3) SDWT concepts 4) Visual boards / Poka yoke baords etc.. c) If it is related to Problem solving then the tools are 1) SGA 2) six sigma Hope this gives a basic info on your expectation Regards Salwin www.manufacturing-trends.com |

I would also add Target Costing as a lean tool that enables the team to ensure they are improving actual costs, and that improvements are flowing through to the bottom line.
